Ita Tobis is a clinical social worker (MSW, RSW) that has many years of experience working with children, adults, couples and families to implement healthy, healing changes in their lives. Ita specializes in substance and process addictions, anxiety, depression, and trauma. She utilizes evidence-based practices such as, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), EMDR, Narrative Therapy, Art Therapy, Mindfulness, and Gestalt Psychotherapy.
Ita engages each individual with care, compassion and respect. Her approach to therapy is to create a comfortable, safe and supportive environment, where she applies customized therapeutic methodologies in order to facilitate real change and growth.
Ita’s previous experience includes working as an addictions therapist at a transitional living home in North York, a social worker at a community counselling agency in York Region, and as a social worker at the Toronto District School Board. Through her work with diverse populations and cultures, Ita has obtained the ability to implement a unique therapy program based on each individuals’ specific needs.
Ita continues to work for a non-profit agency in Toronto providing individual and group counselling for those suffering from various forms of addictions. In this role, she creates customized student workshops and professional development sessions for various universities across Ontario on topics related to addiction and mental health.
Ita holds a Master of Social Work Degree and an Advanced Certificate in Child Welfare Practice from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work in New York City, as well as an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from York University in Toronto.
